Just some pictures I've found over the summer that I think are brilliant.

This picture was created by tossing a camera over some LED lights. I love the effect of this picture, as I think it looks completely photoshopped, but it isn't at all. The colours are gorgeous, and the black background make it look even better. It looks like something from a computer, a program or something. Although the kind of photography I prefer is the kind where you can see what's going on completely, I love the brightness of this image.

This image is of the 9/11 light tribute on Ground Zero to commemorate 10 years since the attacks. Part of the reason I love this image is the cultural significance, and the importance of this image and what it stands for in our world. The other reason is just that I love the converging lines of the image and the brilliant colour of the lights. I think this is a very poignant image, as the lights seem to be reaching to heaven and back. This image is beautiful.

Although this image is largely photoshopped, I still think it is a beautiful image. The colours stand out to the eye, and the placement of the Earth really draws your attention to it. The whole space theme makes for a very intriguing image, as it is obviously not something you can easily photograph in reality. The photoshopping on this image was done in such a way that it looks incredibly realistic, despite the fact it's obviously not.

This series of images demonstrates a photographic technique that I would like to explore. The images have been photographed through a microscope, and show samples of all sorts of different things magnified. The way the images have been put together is very interesting, and also sort of reminds me of the moon, or planets in a row. The range of subjects and styles, although diverse, all pull together to create a visually dynamic image.

This is a panoramic image of the Brooklyn bridge at night. I think the expanse of the image is what sets it apart from the hundreds of other images people have taken of the Brooklyn bridge. The colours, which are all very much yellow and golden really light up the image and make it dynamic to look at. The reflection in the water looks beautiful, although the bridge doesn't always have such a positive image. The photographer of this image has obviously made a thoroughly-done subject into a unique photograph.

This is a macro image of a ballpoint pen. What makes this image brilliant is the simplicity of the subject. Although a ballpoint pen is the most ordinary of things, the detail in the image makes it look a lot more exciting. To me, the point of the pen looks like a planet, a whole world inside a pen nib. This image really brings home to me just how much I love macro photography.

The caption of this image is 'look past the age'. This series of image speaks to me about how younger people view the elderly. Whilst what we see is a frail old body, the people in these images look in the mirror and see who they were, what they did, more than just the wrinkles they have or the grey hairs. This subject has been tackled in such a sensitive way that these images are very powerful and unique.

Something about the desolation of this house amidst all the hills and the clouds and the great expanse of sky touches me from within this image. The lights in the house, however, change this. This house isn't lonely, someone lives there. The colours in this image are beautiful, and make the house look amazing. It makes you feel that this house is a home, somewhere you would want to be.

This image is so enchanting that you can't look away. The reflection in the water really corroborates the beauty of the place, and the colours are beautiful. All the greens are amazing and I love the arch, and how it points your attention down to the reflection. This place looks like a form of paradise.

I feel a lot of emotion coming from this picture. The dark stormy clouds cast a feeling of despair or anger, but then the clouds fade away to a beautiful, bright sunset, with feelings of happiness. The term 'light at the end of the tunnel' comes to mind when I see this picture. The colours are amazing and I love the way the trees line the edges of the water. The reflection just adds to the tone of the image.

This last image is another 9/11 related one. The photographer in question took this image on the September 11th, 2001 and has only just released it, 10 years later, in line with the anniversary.  This image is so telling of what happened that day, so full of the devastation of the event, even if it's only a small snapshot of what happened. The small bit of colour at the bottom right of the image really emphasizes the desperation and tragedy in the situation. This image is outstanding and award-worthy in my opinion.

NB: None of these images belong to me. I found all of them on www.reddit.com, and the respective photographers can be found there.
